Hi, Malibu Democrats —
Exciting things are in the works for the end of summer and fall.
• Mark your calendars for a Meet-and-Greet party at the Piuma-area canyon home of Doug Rosen from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, September 20th. Programs Committee member Dorothy Reik, who is planning the event, has invited 33rd Congressional District Candidate Ted Lieu, and special surprise guest, Florida’s Congressman Alan Grayson who is flying in for the evening just to keep things lively. Set amid sycamores and rolling hills, Doug’s rancho has an aviary filled with peacocks and other exotic birds, a hand-made rock-rimmed swimming pool set into the sprawling grounds surrounding his ranch-style home.
• We’re gearing up to begin an outstanding membership drive! Armed with special software provided by the LA County Democratic Party, our Membership Committee be able to use state-of-the-art communications and social media software. We also have a series of personal outreach efforts planned. All just in time for the fall Get Out the Vote campaign. Be a part of this exciting club-building effort. Email MalibuDemocraticClub@gmail.com if you want to take part!
• Care to host a Meet-and-Greet party in your home? Ted Lieu is looking for volunteers who are willing to host up to 30 guests to introduce him to your friends and neighbors. He is the leading contender in the Congressional race to take Henry Waxman’s 33rd District seat. If you’d like to help, contact Harry McAlevy, one of Teds campaign interns, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
•The Bylaws Committee, headed by Ted Vaill, is updating and revising this important document. The current one is on this site under the “What’s Up” pulldown menu. The bylaws govern how your Dem Club functions. If you have an opinion, send us a line and speak your mind.
If you would like to attend a board meeting they are scheduled at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month (unless there is an important civic event which members will want to attend, in which case we reschedule.) We are looking for a permanent meeting place, so if you have ideas please send them to MalibuDemocraticClub@gmail.com. A suitable location should have a room for a large meeting table with chairs for up to 25 people or so, and sufficient parking, and should remain open or available until 9 p.m.)
Also, if you are interested in suggesting events or working on committees to plan events, do fundraising, get out the vote, or build membership, please send us a line. This is fun and exciting work — a wonderful opportunity to meet some pretty terrific people! Hope to see you at one of our events.Ann Doneen
