Progressive Leader Grayson asks Dem Club to support Ted Lieu
Just look how much fun we had! Scores of people turned out last Saturday (Sept. 20,) for the most mouth-watering barbecued chicken, ribs and sausages you’ve ever tasted! It was the perfect warm, clear day — not too hot. Just warm and nice. Host Doug Rosen cooked his best recipes. Kids were wading in the rock-lined pool. Dogs were hangin’ out, and Florida Rep. Alan Grayson was hugging California State Sen. Ted Lieu and telling folks what a great rep he’s going to be when he’s voted in to represent the 33rd District. Some of us walked around back and got a good look at the exotic fowl, peacocks and some four-legged creatures. . . . Meanwhile, Ted and Alan were chatting it up with everyone, and the lemonade was disappearing fast. Pardon us if we’re a little smug, but there’s gonna be a whole lot more of this kinda thing goin’ on around here. Join the Malibu Democrat Club if you’re not already on our list. And if you are, join a committee and be a part of the action. Pictures don’t lie! Sign up via ActBlue on the “Join Us” page!
Please come to a summer’s-end barbecue with Democrat friends where you’ll meet two of America’s top Democratic candidates for congressional offices.
Amid the oaks, sycamores, and wild walnut trees, Malibu Democratic Club’s endorsed Congressional Candidate Ted Lieu (who also is Rep. Henry Waxman’s choice to represent the 33rd District) will join Rep. Alan Grayson, one of the Progressive movement’s most celebrated leaders, Sunday, Sept. 20, as featured guests at MDC board member Doug Rosen’s incredible Monte Nido compound.
And you’re invited!
Take a walk through Doug’s spread, and say hello to the many peacocks, pheasants and other magnificent birds and animals. Let the kids romp free, and if you dare, poke a toe or two into Doug’s cool and picturesque rock-lined pool.
You’ll be getting to know your next Congressman and telling him the issues you feel are most important to Malibu. Chatting with Grayson, one our country’s best liberals, on some the world’s most pressing issues. And introducing your family to two congressional reps who will be leading our nation over the next two years.Just for conversation starters, ask Ted about how he will act on his commitment to provide low interest loans for college students, expand funding for public schools, strengthen the Affordable Care Act, raise the minimum wage, protect Social Security and Medicare, and reduce climate change.
Or, his recent actions in the California Senate that produced these headlines:
• Senate approves Ted Lieu Bill Prohibiting California from Cooperating in Mass Spying
• Sen Ted Lieu Calls for Investigation of Psychotropic Drug Prescriptions for Minors
• Lawmakers Embrace Agreement for Renewed Tax Credit to Help Film/TV Industries
• Sen. Ted Lieu-backed Privacy Bill Calls for Increased Protections from Drone Surveillance
A quick look at Alan Grayson’s recent Congressional activities will make for some fascinating discussion.
Just last June Rep. Alan Grayson became the first-known member of Congress to view the current text of the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. For the past three years this secret international agreement which is dangerously close to being adopted, has been negotiated behind closed door, by the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and foreign governments. But, after years of advocacy by civil liberties groups, labor advocates, and Members of Congress, the USTR finally relented and allowed Congressman Grayson to view the text.
What did Grayson say after seeing it?
“It is easy to understand why this NAFTA-style agreement has been kept secret. The TPP is a disturbing attack on American democracy and sovereignty. It puts corporate interests ahead of American interests.
To find out why he thinks that, he’ll tell you in person!
Bring your friends and family to this stimulating and educational afternoon and relax in this informal setting knowing that on the grassy lawn at Doug’s house you are participating in true grass roots democracy.
Remember: September 20 at Doug Rosen’s incredible compound in Monte Nido – just next to the Saddle Peak Lodge. We promise not only Ted and Alan but also some great food and drink – so come hungry.
