Members of Malibu Democratic Club (MDC) have elected officers for 2014-15, selecting media consultant and former journalist Ann Doneen as their new president.
The Board of Directors election occurred Sunday, May 18, at the Point Dumé Clubhouse, where members voted to retain the Democratic Club’s other board members.
“This club has tremendous potential to affect the future of Malibu as well as the State of California,” said Doneen. “Over the coming year we want to attract new members while also boosting involvement among our club’s broad membership base.”
Other MDC officers for the 2014-2015 year will include Leonard Zahn, vice president; Ted Vaill, second vice president; Linda Goodman, secretary; Jean Goodman, immediate past president, and board members Carol Moss, Ralph Erickson, Kim Drobny, Sam Hall Kaplan, Scott Abrams, Gil Somerfield, Jim Hensley, Claudia Zahn, Art Zoloth, Helen Zoloth, Dorothy Reik,, Pam Conley Ulich, Betsy Butler, and Sharon Barovsky. Write-in votes also were were cast for Jennifer de Nicola; Derek Doneen, and Marcia Hanscom.
Ann Doneen currently is a board member of the Malibu Township Council and she has been active in Malibu environmental projects, including work to save wildlife at the Malibu Lagoon. She is an award-winning former Channel 2 News Investigative Unit news segment producer, Cal State University, Northridge director of public affairs; a columnist for TV Guide Magazine; and public affairs director at Art Center College of Design. She also has written for the Malibu Times.
